Music Through the Ages

Musician Dennis Monroe was a passionate lover of music and young people. This program, founded in his memory, is a musical mentoring program for city youth.

Musician Steve Piper provides a song writing session to School 19 students through REF's Music Through the Ages program.

Through the program, professional musicians work with students at School 19 and perform at the school regularly, creating a wide range of opportunities. The program funds song-writing workshops, performances, presentations of historic music to coordinate with student learning, and musical mentoring of students.

Music teacher Joyce Bryan values the experience. "When they can get close to an adult, talk to the musicians, this is excellent."

Musicians are paid a modest honorarium for their appearances through the program.
